Investment
The majority of our communities’ investments have been ploughed into our buildings, the bricks and mortar. This was important to establish our communities and give us a base. However, our most valuable asset is our human resource and there is now an increasing realisation that we need to invest in our people, the human capital, in order to achieve a brighter future for our communities. The Youth Leadership Development Programme (LDP) is a significant step being taken to invest in our people, in particular our youth.

Questions to ask yourself
How well do you know yourself?
What potential is locked up inside you?
How can you better understand yourself to release more of your God-given potential?

Aim
The primary aim of this programme is to develop personal and leadership capacity across the youth in CoEJ. The type of youth that will enable our communities to meet the challenges posed by the future and to fully serve the common good of both the Khoja Shia Ithna’Asheri communities and wider society.

What does the Youth LDP entail?
The Youth LDP engages you in a range of experiential, reflective and interactive exercises in a comfortable, supportive and professional environment. This will help you to learn more about:

• Who you are
• Recognise your temperament
• Understand what is it deep inside you that makes you think, feel and behave the way you do
• Theory of emotion, optimising yourself under stressors
• Breaking through some of your internal barriers
• Communication through body language
• Being more effective as a person - a professional, a volunteer, a leader
• Continuing your self-development journey
• Ways in which to make your contribution to the community (if this is something you are interested in thinking about)

Whether you are just beginning to get more actively involved in community work or have been contributing for years and are keen to develop capacity, you will find the Youth LDP stimulating, insightful and challenging.

The Youth LDP is being run by a team of experienced facilitators. We are confident you will get a lot out of taking part. You’ll enjoy new forms of teaching and training and will have the opportunity to share your experiences with brothers and sisters with the observance of Hijab.

Philosophy and Values
The educational principles underpinning the Youth LDP use adult learning models and require participants to fully and actively engage in the process of learning. The programme will enable participants to explore assumptions, beliefs and attitudes about themselves, their communities, the environments in which they operate and the wider in order to enable them to ‘do differently’ where necessary and possible. We know learning is enhanced by feeling comfortable and having fun so expect this to be part and parcel of the weekend.

Our Islamic values lie at the base of the key learning in the Youth LDP, both in what is discussed and how it is demonstrated.
