From the CoEJ Archives: Young Girls Camp

Updated 11 May 2010

In May 2005 the young girl’s camp was very kindly hosted by Milton Keynes Jamaat.  A group of 34 girls arrived at the Imambara equipped with sleeping bags, ready for their three day sleepover.

That year’s theme was self development and the girls participated in workshops on friendship building and self esteem. Simultaneously they were given talks on responsibilities of becoming baaligh and were demonstrated the correct way of doing wudhu and namaaz. The girls also had an opportunity to enjoy the prayer of Shab on Friday night.

However the afternoons were exclusively for fun. The girls had a visit to the local indoor ski slope were they all adorned helmets and gloves and ventured down tobogganing on the slope. All of them had ecstatic smiles on their faces, surely thinking this is one experience they will never forget.
A member of the Milton Keynes Jamaat arranged for the girls to have an exclusive use of a private swimming pool. This was a real treat for the girls who thoroughly enjoyed the swim. It was commendable that 34 girls used one single shower taking turns in an orderly manner.

After having prayed Jumma prayers the girls put up a presentation of nasheeds, a play and a debate for the mums who came to pick them up.
Some comments from the campers:

“I have learnt to pray namaaz better”
“The food was good and I made so many new friends”
“Can you put my name down for next year, I loved it”
“I don’t want to go home can we stay for a few more days”
“I had never prayed Namaaz e Shab in my life”

Following from the positive feedback received from past campers. The Khawateen Committee has once again organised its Annual Young Girls Camp. The camp will be held from Tuesday 1 June 2010 – Friday 4 June 2010 at KSIMC of Birmingham.
