On 22 August 2010, the Husaini Youth Group of the Husaini Islamic Centre in Peterborough (UK) organized a bucket collection in the city centre to raise funds for the PAKISTAN FLOOD RELIEF FUND launched by The World Federation of KSIMC. The Youth Group invited other youth from across the city to join them in this community-wide event.
During the day, the Muslim youth were fasting and took on the challenge of raising money for the people who are affected by the floods in Pakistan.
Project Manager, Sajida Mawani, commented: ‘We were greatly disturbed to hear of the plight of the people and wanted to raise awareness as well as encourage the citizens of Peterborough to donate towards this appeal and decided to hold the collection in the city centre where many generous people donated.’
The collection lasted five hours, after which the motivated youths counted the donations which amounted to £2,500.
The event was a wonderful success as it also created an environment of cohesion with the young people in Peterborough. All monies raised will be sent to the flood victims in Pakistan through The World Federation of KSIMC.
