For many children living in the poor, rural areas of Kenya, having breakfast before being sent off to school or madrassa is a distant dream. Parents here cannot afford to provide even a simple meal for their children; moreover, the current drought and soaring food prices is worsening the already distraught situation.
Statistics show that 23% of the population in Kenya lives on less than a dollar a day, and 40% of the population is unemployed.
In response to the plight of these desperate families, the Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya (BMMK), with the support of The World Federation is launching the FEED A CHILD PROGRAMME. The purpose of this initiative is to raise funds to provide a decent breakfast to undernourished pre-primary and madrassa students living in rural centers in Kenya.
The breakfast consists of porridge made with bulrush millet, milk and sugar and is cooked by community volunteers.
By donating to the FEED A CHILD PROGRAMME, you are helping a student by:
• Putting a smile on his/her face;
• Filling his/her stomach with a decent meal;
• Ensuring that he/she goes to school enthusiastic about learning;
• Making sure he/she enjoys a childhood full of good health and vigor.
For as little as USD $3, you can make a huge difference in the lives of young, innocent children. A child can be sponsored monthly or annually.
