The World Federation of KSIMC Triennial Conference met in Toronto, Canada from 23 to 25 October 2009. During the meeting, lengthy discussions took place about the current electoral process of The World Federation of KSIMC which faced a number of challenges during its 2009 presidential elections.
The Conference was keen to resolve the inefficiencies which surfaced during the election process and bring about more openness and fairness. To this end, the Conference in Toronto appointed the following individuals to carefully examine the electoral process and to make recommendations on how to reform the electoral process so that a new standard operating procedure (SOP) and amendments to the constitution can be made:
- Al Haj Mujtaba Datoo
- Al Haj Murtaza Bharwani
- Al Haj Shan-E-Abbas Hassam
It was resolved by the Toronto Conference that a Constitutional Conference be convened in December 2010 in the United Kingdom where the Constitutional Conference Review Committee would report back to the Conference with the overall objective to amend The World Federation of KSIMC presidential election method and process.
In addition, the Extraordinary Conference in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania also acknowledged the changes required in the presidential election method and process and supported the Constitutional Conference Review Committee team selection which took place in Toronto, Canada.
The Constitutional Conference Review Committee has begun their assigned task and is at present researching the Electoral College system which was proposed by NASIMCO.
This 3-man team (Constitutional Conference Review Committee) will be joined by a consultation team, or the Constitutional Conference Consultation Body which will include 2 individuals appointed by each of the Regional Federations. The Constitutional Conference Review Committee will consult with this group during the process of their mandate.
The Constitutional Conference Review Committee is now appealing to all community members to provide their feedback and suggestions on how to reform the electoral process for the position of President.
At the Third Executive Council Meeting for the term 2009 to 2012, The Executive Council of The World Federation of KSIMC set the date of the Constitutional Conference which will Insha’Allah be held on the 4th and 5th of December 2010 in the United Kingdom.
