The Triennial Conference of 2009 held in Toronto, Canada duly elected Dr. Asgharali Moledina as The President for the term 2009 - 2012.
This Conference witnessed an extraordinary process whereby it resolved that the election process was fundamentally flawed. The Conference then assumed its authority to elect a President from amongst the six candidates nominated prior to the elections. The Conference also heard the Arbitrator’s report of voting irregularities and it’s recommendation to the Electoral Commissioner that seven Gujarat Jamaats including Bhavnagar, Ahmedabad and Mahuva re-run their elections.
Of the six earlier candidates who ran for the post of President, Dr. Asgharali Moledina and Aun Ali Khalfan contested for the post. The other three candidates (Ashikhussein Rashid, Munawer Rattansey and Dr. Amir Lakha) were also nominated from the floor and withdrew their nominations. The sixth candidate, Syed Hassan Naqvi was not present.
After due deliberations on the resolutions passed at the Conference, and in the spirit of unity the delegates voted for the President reflecting the grassroots’ preferences.
In addition, the following were also elected:
Vice President Munawer Rattansey [uncontested] Hon Treasurer Sajjad Tejani [uncontested]
For the post of Electoral Commissioner Jaffer Dharamsi was unanimously elected [Mujtaba Datoo, Gulamabbas Sajan and Murtaza Bharwani were also proposed from the floor but withdrew their nominations].

In accordance with Clause 19.1.2 [b] of the Constitution, The President, Dr Asgharali Moledina appointed Shabbar Dhalla as the Secretary General.
