On 1st May 2009, The World Federation opened its newest health care facility, the Zainabiya Health Centre in Pottenahali, India. The opening ceremony was held after Namaz-e-Juma to coincide with the wiladat of Bibi Zainab (AS).
Pottenahali is a village in the Bangalore district of Karnataka State in India, around a 2 hour drive from Bangalore city. Until the opening of the centre, there were no primary health care facilities to help and support the local villagers. The nearest centre was over 10 kilometers away.
The Zainabiya Health Centre will benefit not only the local Shia population, but also the general population within the village and nearby villages.
This center will also be able to provide medical services to the Zainabiya School which has 194 students, out of which over 120 are sponsored through the ZCSS.
There is a Shia mosque, a Madrasah and an Imambargah adjacent to the Health Centre, so there is an opportunity for an attached health worker/social worker to visit the community and the children of the Zainabiya School to impart health education.
The World Federation is hopeful that the Zainabiya Health Centre will be self funding within 3 years.
